THOUGHTS TO PLAY BY:

Before making a stroke from anywhere on the course, the player may have the flagstick attended, removed or held up to indicate position of hole.

The player's ball must not strike:

a. The flagstick when it is attended, removed, or held up
b. Person attending or holding flagstick
c. The flagstick in the hole, unattended when stroke made on putting green
d. The flagstick on the ground-players ball resting against it

***The result of the above actions cause a player to incur a two-stroke penalty.

Player may putt with one hand while holding the flagstick with the other hand and making sure not to lean on the flag.

Member Spotlight - Heidi Cherry

Heidi CherryHeidi Cherry was born in Germany during the final months of World War II.  Today the area where she grew up is Polish territory.  In 1959 she immigrated to the U.S. with her parents and brother and sister.  They settled in West Virginia where Heidi completed high school and graduated from college.  She moved to Baltimore, then to Cincinnati.  After many vacations in the Myrtle Beach area and taking up golf with a nine-hole ladies’ league after work, it was an easy decision to move to the area upon retirement.
Heidi taught elementary school for five years, then retired in 1997 after a 25-year career in accounting and finance.  She was employed as an office manager for several fire sprinkler contracting firms.

Heidi enjoys golf for the organized golf outings, social gatherings and the opportunity to make new friends.  She has been an EWGA member for almost ten years and has assisted in several social events.

Heidi and her husband, Mike, has five children and eight grandchildren, two in college.  Her family is scattered between the east and west coasts, so they look forward to periodic family gatherings.

Her other interests include floral arranging, gardening and volunteer work.

Heidi’s most memorable golf moments were shooting even par 72 on the Myrtle Beach National West course and her hole-in-one on the West course’s eighth hole a few years ago.

Heidi says “Golf is a game of leisure, waiting, patience, and an opportunity to make lifetime friends through the Chapter teachings.  Belonging to EWGA is making a commitment to a program of improvement – we can learn from other golfers.”
Those who know Heidi realize that a lot can be learned from her, also.
